SATUN
has been officially endorsed by the UNESCO to be a UNESCO Global Geopark since 2018. Satun UNESCO Global Geopark is known as a peaceful place of great natural beauty. Multiple cultures and groups, including Buddhists, Muslims, Christians, and smaller groups, such as the Semung or Maniq and Urak Lawoi
(or Chao le in Thai language), live here together in harmony in this area. It is well known as the land of Palaeozoic fossils due to their abundance, high diversity and remarkable succession of fossil including trilobites, brachiopods, stromatolites, conodonts, graptolites, tentaculites and nautiloids. The inhabitants’ main economic activities centre on agriculture, fishery, tourism, and small local business.

Ko Lipe
Lipe island
- “Lipe” is an island in Satun Province which is under the supervision of Tarutao National Park. The highlight of Ko Lipe is the nature of the coral surrounding the island, a white sand beach and turquoise sea water.
- Ko Lipe is approximately 85 kilometers from the mainland and is often called the Maldives of Thailand. Ko Lipe is a heaven in south Andaman which is very popular among tourists.
- Its world-class beauty has gained popularity among tourists. Highlights of Koh Lipe include a white sand beach and turquoise sea water.
On the island there are boat rentals are available for travel to the around islands.
Tham Le Stegodon
Stegodon cave
- Tham Le Stegodon is a limestone cave that is outstanding in terms of geology since it is a stream cave with a length of no less than 4 kilometers.
- The distinctive thing of the cave is the discoveries of the Pleistocene fossil elephants and rhinoceroses particularly the Stegodon elephants that is the derivation of the name “Stegodon Sea Cave”. The fossil is a right lower jaw with the second and third molars of an ancient elephant Stegodon with molars of 1.8 million year-10,000 years of Stegodon
- There are still formations of stalactites and stalagmites in many beautiful and strange shapes.
Mu Ko Phetra National Park
Visit the time travel district at Mu ko Phetra national park near Khao To Ngai by the sea. Cambrian red sandstone (Tarutao Group) which is overlain by Ordovician
limestone (Thung Song Group) as a normal fault contact boundary between the two rock groups with different ages located on the high cliff with the seafront spanned up to the sea horizon far away.
- A walking bridge built by the Mu Ko Petra National Park is paved encircling the mountain along the seafront named the “Time-bounded crossing bridge”.
Ko Khao Yai &Prasat Hin Pun Yod
- The beaches and the emerald waters that hide in the rock face look like a castle with thousands of peaks.
- It was formed by the lifting of the crust for hundreds of millions of years, making the stone appear quaint.
- Traveling here to kayak through the strait to find the magnificence of this castle stone.
- You can see the coral reefs and marine creatures along the coast during the lowest tide period.
- The main feature of Ko Khao Yai Island is the sculpture beautifully crafted by the nature. It is a natural bridge stretching out into the sea and the boats can pass under it during the low tide.
Wang Sai Thong Waterfall
- The place is the first tufa waterfall of Thailand discovered as non-slippery surface under a rare plentiful natural resources.
- The beauty of this waterfall is the limestone in the shape of multi-petalled lotus flowers settling on the bottom of the pools at each of its tiers.
- The rock is yellow lime irradiated as if a golden yellow lotus when exposed to the sun under cool and pleasant tall tree canopies.
